First moment with you

After the storm

There is a calm

Like this you

Were born

Into my arms

And for a few moments

The world stood still

Your future awaited

I at your service

You at mine

Both entwined

For a lifetime

Peace wrapped us both

For our breathing

And growth

Only for those few moments

Those startling

Blinding white

Moments

You were mine

We were us

My first true love

You grew within me

Yet I too grew because of you

A grand surprise

Raising each other

Nestled and nuzzled

in my arms

I fell in love with you

Bonding beyond time

Through diapers and dogs

Chess pieces and karate kicks

Basketballs and acting skits

Holding hands in movie theaters

Building sand castles by the sea

You were always the one for me

No matter where you are or go

You cannot avoid the tender love

That connects us

My first true love

Freedom to Burn

My deepest yearning

To be gently held

But not possessed

To be gently caressed

But not owned

The wild spirit inside me

May not be tamed

For the flame

Cannot burn that way

Needing space and air

To expand

Opening to possibilities

Shattering expectations

Rare moments

Of tenderness and respect

We may connect

Soul Sisters

Flopping on trampolines

And swinging from rope swings

Late night slumber parties and mud pies

Shaped into magical creations and far out dreams

Student government campaigns

And championship volleyball teams

School bus rides and new boyfriends

Then the hard to balance years

With striving, mothering, and careers

Talks turning to survival

Children, spouses, divorces, financial

Love, laughter, pain, and sorrow

Life’s journey plunged us deep within

Together we explored

Seeking truth and greater authenticity

We were not content to just be

Like others on the surface happily

We surrendered to the more

Together living courageously

From love with love

Standing by with love

Being Unconditionally Love
