DR. SHANNON'S
GLOBAL TALES
Life and learning can be a beautiful adventure...
Welcome to a collection of personal stories written over the past fifteen years, shaped by my life and work in Zambia, Hungary, Morocco, Turkey, Kosovo, the Netherlands, and now on Terceira Island in the Azores, Portugal—where I have lived for the past four and a half years and where new creative and educational work continues to take shape.
Sharing this personal learning journey adds meaning to my life and invites deeper reflection along the way. Thank you for joining me in this marvelous adventure.

BOOKS
My first blog posts were written while I was living in Zambia between 2007 and 2009, during my work as an upper school IB (International Baccalaureate) Theatre teacher. Those reflections—written in the midst of teaching, learning, and cultural immersion—later became the foundation for my memoir.
In 2014, I compiled these writings into the first version of Breaking Free in Zambia: Tales of a Western Woman. It wasn’t until 2023, however, that I finally had the time, distance, and focus to complete a full revision—one I could truly stand behind. I am deeply grateful to the friends and colleagues along the way who believed in the potential of this book and encouraged me to keep going. Because of them, it is here now.
My most recent children’s book, The Magical Fish of Silveria, reflects another strand of my creative life: storytelling for young readers. The book is available in three formats—a Portuguese paperback, an English paperback, and a multilingual hardcover edition—designed to celebrate language, imagination, and connection across cultures.
Moments of the Heart is a collection of love poems written over the course of my lifetime. Its vision was shaped and compiled during a sabbatical in Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira Island in the Azores, Portugal—a place that offered the stillness and beauty needed to gather these poems into a single work.
